Today, http://www.jerichoambrose.com/ is officially online.
What does this mean to you Dear Reader? First I will try to never address you as Dear Reader, again. Ever. Instead I'll probably just call all of you "ya'll" or "you all." I'll just go ahead and blame it on the fact that I live in TX. To answer some of the questions I think you might have read below:
Q: But I thought Texas was made of cowboys and horses. How can you be a writer when you are always corralling cattle?
A: Texas is not made only of cowboys and horses (believe me that was my first fear when I moved here). The cities of Texas that I've lived in have been surprisingly normal, and of the ones that aren't "normal," their weirdness is usually not of the cowboy variety. But I do have a day job, and a boyfriend so I definitely do feel a time pinch when it comes to finding writing time.
Q: So, what have you written?
A: Mostly a few fantasy short stories. I have continually read that most writers need to bang out nearly a million words before they finally produce material worth reading. Right now, a lot of my work is written with the goal of becoming a better writer. I know some of it will be garbage, but when I have managed a few pieces of which I am proud, I will show it to my wonderful writing group. They of course will quickly bring me back to reality.
Q: Oh, you aren't a real writer then, you just want to be a writer.
A: That's not really a question but to answer...sort of.
When I was in middle school my parents thought I had a certain flair for creative writing, but I was feeding a TV addiction at that time and felt reading, much less writing, was not nearly as interesting as the Power Rangers. I eventually found out how much fun reading could be, but never put pen to paper.
Last year, though I discovered how much I loved to write. Before then I was always playing a game with my friends where you made up a person's background and life story (usually with hilarious details). But after reading a particularly great novel by my favorite author (RIP: Robert Jordan) I thought I would take a stab at it. I was immediately rejected by everywhere I submitted. I eventually started researching trying to discover the best habits of successful authors. I feel like this research has helped me get my footing and now I'm simply doing what everyone seems to say: write, write, write. Eventually I'll gamble it all away when I finally write my novel. But for now I'm just scrambling to fit the time to write in between work, and life. After all, You have to start somewhere...
My promises to ya'll:
I will write on a regular basis. I will try my best to not sound like a douche. And I will almost always leave comments open (just know I will monitor them from time to time).
